“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
These are the words of Jesus reading from the gospel of John chapter 15. It is spoken to us who do not depart from His commandments and thereby abide in His immeasurable love. The fruit that is produced from your life is blessed by God when you abide in Him. His desire is that we would bare much fruit and that it would remain, (continue to be, not to perish, to last). I love that this segment from Jesus is concluded with Him stating , “These things I command you, so that you will love one another.” (John 15:17 ESV) That which is carried out through our individual existence is first and foremost to bring glory to God as Colossians 3:23 tells us, that whatever we do, to do it heartily as to the Lord and not to men, however, as a result, our fruit will serve others! As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (1 Peter 4:10 NKJV). Therefore, let all that we do be done with love, because Love is the greatest of these, and Love never fails! As we abide in God, whatever we ask in the name of Jesus, whom All authority has been given to, the Father will give it. It is from the abiding place, as we remain yielded unto God, that we obtain that which He would sow into us, and we would yield fruit that He would bless worthy for the remaining. As we become filled with the essence of God, we will not ask from selfish wants, ambitions and desires. As we are purged and cleansed of impurity, while we remain in Him, as Jesus teaches, then we will ask according of matters as the Spirit will lead. I find that there is much that one can be built up in from this scripture. One thing I personally value and love, is the concept of producing fruit that will last, therefore putting our whole being into living for something worthwhile.
Why I highlight this, is because God has chosen us! God’s Word tells us that His sheep know His voice and many of us hear the call to serve in the gifting’s, talents, abilities, crafts, creativity and skills that God has given us and is drawing out of us for such a time as this! As the new year is approaching, this is a Word for many of us. God has called us that we would produce Much Fruit! He will elevate and advance many unto His Glory and Calling. When it comes to putting our hands to the Work that pertains to God, His Spirit will fill and equip us! “…to all who are wise-hearted I have given the skill and ability to make everything that I have commanded you, Exodus 31:6(Amplified). God is speaking this to the sons whose hearts were stirred with wisdom, and whose spirit was willing to put their hands to work for the tabernacle of God. Speaking to the women, in Exodus 35, likewise they are called wise hearted, as they brought forth materials for all kinds of work which the Lord commanded. Concerning the workmen/ or craftsmen that were called by God, He says; He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in “all” manner of artistic workmanship, (Exodus 35:31-33 NKJV). Concerning another He says, He has put in his heart the ability to teach, He has filled them with skill to do all manner of work of the engraver and the designer and the tapestry maker, in blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, and of the weaver—those who do every work and those who design artistic works.(Exodus 35:34-35 NKJV) What stands out to me in these scriptures, is that the Lord is saying, He has filled these wise-hearted men and women, those who do every variation of work already and who design artistic work, with skill and ability to make All that He has commanded. All of which is allowing God’s Glory to be broadly made known.
Friends, it is time to go to work. To put our hands to the good works of God, which He ordained beforehand that we should walk in them. Concerning idleness, sleep, slumber, dormancy and wastefulness of time, that road will lead you to continual hunger with no satisfaction, susceptible to being busy in matters that don’t matter, or as one translation puts it, meddling in other people’s business.(1 Thessalonians 3:11 AMP) With lack of vision for yourself, what else can your eyes be fixed to?
Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men
Proverbs 22:29 NKJV
I don’t take this scripture in our day and time now specifically, to be literal in the sense of standing before actual king’s, but in saying, God will exalt you in your gifts. He will shine His favor and make room for you in the presence of those who greatly matter in the grand scheme of things. “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” 1Peter 5:6 NKJV
Something that God has shown me, is that we can be found trustworthy with what He loves, when we love and value that wholeheartedly to the capacity that His Spirit teaches us. Any wise being, would not trust one with their most valuable possessions, if they did not see that it likewise had been valued! Hereby, God’s Word tells us, if we are found faithful over few things, He would make us ruler over many things. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. (Matthew 25:29 NKJV) This is said in the parable of talents, to those who wisely managed, faithfully and fairly caring for what’s been given to them. The master returns to find that the faithful manager did steward well, and increased what was given to them, and therefore, the master sees fit that this individual be rewarded and added unto.
The following wise words, shall never grow old for me.
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom
Psalms 90:12 NKJV
Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV) Understanding is the mature comprehension, the act of grasping the nature, meaning or importance of a matter. It is the fuel we need, in order to draw out the purposes of God. The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, Proverbs 20:5 says, “but a man of understanding will draw it out.”
Jesus spoke that He came not to be served, but to serve others and if you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others. (Matthew 20:26 CEV). Our gifts will make room for us, with the purpose of giving Glory to the one who gives the gift. So therefore, bear much fruit that would remain, and all the while, serve and love others, who also remain God’s specially valued, and loved creation.
The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.
Titus 3:8 ESV
“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalms 90:17 NKJV
“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Proverbs 16:3
