Encourage Yourself

Encourage Yourself

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV) Today we’ll be talking about how to encourage yourself in the Lord. David found himself in distress and had to encourage himself in the Lord. He started seeking His face for direction. Let’s define what it means to be encouraged. According to Merriam Webster it means to inspire with courage, spirit, or hope : HEARTEN. Based off that definition encouraging yourself means to inspire or in other words motivate yourself.

Now what else does the Bible say about being encouraged or encouraging yourself? Well, in Romans 8:28 (KJV) it says: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” During hard times you might not feel like encouraging yourself but that verse tells us that everything will work as long as you love God and you know that you’re called according to his purpose. Meaning that if you know you’re called and you love God it doesn’t matter what kind of obstacles you might come across because everything will work together for your good in the end.

I know that school is starting soon for some of you and it can be very stressful. All the classes, assignments, different teachers, and everything of the sort. But Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) says:“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Starting school or anything that might be new can bring anxiety or apprehension but the Word says to make your requests known to God and He will give you peace. Pray for Him to give you good success as you go on any journey.

The main points I’d like you as a reader to take away from this are that regardless of what you’re going through or how discouraged you might feel, you can find peace and encouragement in the Word of God.

  2. I really liked the definition…to inspire or motivate yourself—I’ve never thought of it like that before. Always love your articles Rachael! Thank you so much!
