The recent Uvalde school shooting was and still is a devastation and tragedy. So calculated, yet so unexpected. They were students, teachers, brothers, sisters, wives and mothers. They were sons and daughters. The shooter killed 21 innocent people that day but he took the lives of way more. The family members of each of those killed became victims that day as well. Some lost their hope, they lost laughs and giggles at bedtime, and many lost their vision or idea of what the future could or would WorryEven further, our entire nation became victims that day too. Not wanting to send their children back to public school, some wanting more strict gun laws, being torn between providing physically with time invested or financially with your resource to make sure basic needs are met, some not wanting to go in public at all. After all–this could have happened anywhere; at a marathon race in Boston, at a Wal- Mart in El Paso, a grocery store in New York, a medical center in Oklahoma, a high school in Colorado, or anywhere else.
To think about the aftermath of this country from everything that has or is happening around us and in the lives of the people I talk to one on one, my heart grows so heavy. Being able to see things from a spiritual vantage point let me remind you that the devil is raging. His description hasn’t changed since the beginning. He comes to steal, kill and destroy according to John 10:10. Steal your peace, kill your hope and destroy your faith.

The dictionary defines anxiety as ‘a feeling of worry, nervousness, or uneaze, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome’. Depression is defined as ‘a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Although both of these branch into different disorders they both stem from the same root cause: Worry.
I want you to hear me very clearly. What faith is to God, worry is to the devil. It’s worship. That’s right! Worry is worship to the devil! Worry is allowing your mind to dwell on difficulties or troubles. It’s putting your trust in your own thoughts, and not trusting God for His perfect Will to be done in and over your life. I want you to begin to look at your worries and anxieties as a sickness and not simply a distraction or mood. Spiritually speaking, anxiety and depression are mental illnesses. They are plagues and locusts that come to devour the promises that God gave you. By giving it your consistent attention, you allow the enemy to be magnified in and over your thoughts.
I want to challenge you to put the enemy under your feet and take back control of your thoughts and imagination. One of the keys is to know scripture. There’s so much doctrine these days, but what we need in this hour is SOUND doctrine! “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” 2 Tim 3:16
I want to take the next couple of minutes to walk you through how to dismantle anxiety and depressions grip, whether it’s on you, your spouse, your children or anyone else you may be close to. It’s important that you learn to endure hardness like a good soldier. No one serving as a good soldier entangles himself with the affairs of this life but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 2 Tim 2:3-4
Our job as believers is simple. Believe God! Believe Him when things look promising, and believe Him especially when they don’t. It’s easy when God will give a prophetic word of promise and then when the tests come, we forget all about said promise. Get into the habit of believing God more than you believe the devil. Did you know that 98% of the things we worry about never actually happen? This lets you know that it’s truly a waste of time.

In order to dismantle anxiety and depression from the mind, begin to thank God that His word is not polluted. His word is quick and powerful, sharper than any two edges sword, piercing, even to the dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow according to Hebrews 4:12. Thank Him that He hastened His word to perform it according to Luke 1:45. Believe that before He formed you In the belly he knew you and before you came out of the womb He called you and your family, He sanctified you and your family, and He ordained you and your family according to Jeremiah 1:5. The Bible says, that He gives you a new heart and spirit in Ezekiel 36:26. Call God back on His word concerning your spouse or your children. God’s hand is on the heart of you and your family: saved, backslidden, and unsaved. Praise Him that He is tugging at their heartstrings constantly and consistently. Remind yourself that God is not slack concerning His promises according to 2 Peter 3:9 and that the God you serve, The one that sits high and looks low, The one who was who is and who is yet to come is a covenant keeping God according to Psalm 89:3 and that the angels of the Lord hearken unto the voice of His Word according to Psalm 89:34.
How do you feel right about now? Did your anxieties calm down? Does your depression feel less heavy? Did you worries disappear in that moment? Speak back the word to and over your mind, your heart, your husband’s mind, your children’s and grandchildren’s mind, your parent’s mind and your grandparents if the Lord has blessed them with bountiful life. Don’t you for one second cowar to the enemy and his attempts to steal your peace, kill your hope, and destroy your faith in God.

You don’t have to know many scriptures, but for the ones you do know, use them more as you continue to learn others.
My sister & friend, disconnect from the kingdoms and systems of this world, and tap into the uncharted territory waiting for you to unlock through our Comforter-The Holy Spirit. He will not leave you ignorant concerning Satan’s devices according to 2 Corinthians 2:11. There is a realm on the other side of your faith that He is waiting to release to you because The Father you serve would not withhold any good thing from you.
